“I wrote “Feels Like Home” immediately after coming home from seeing the movie a star is born. That song “I’ll Never Love Again”…the way she sings it at the end…made me cry way more than I’ve ever cried at the movies and I couldn’t wait to sit down at my piano and spill those emotions on paper.
My songs are like my journey entries, especially this “Feels Like Home.” I want to finish them, develop them, and put them out to the world because they’re going to live long past me. When I’m 80, I can listen to them and remember what I was going through. A song like this sounds sad but it’s not. If you listen to the lyrics and watch the music video, you’ll see that I’m acknowledging the good that comes with the bad, and am thankful for both. I’m glad I wrote this song from a happy, inspired place, rather than a heartbroken one.
This song is about turning challenges into sort of refuge, something I don’t have to run from, like a home.”
Kit Benz recorded on a baby grand piano live at Tone House Studios in Babylon, NY, while Gabi Rose sang live in the control room. The song was produced by Anthony Lopardo and mixed & mastered by Ray Marte, co-owners of Westfall Recording Company in Farmingdale, NY. The song is the first stripped-down record the group has created thus far, and it’s also the final single to be released before their debut 2022 EP.
